Title Sequence Design

No Country for Old Men

Llewelyn Moss didn’t anticipate the deadly consequences that was about to descend upon him when he took bags of money he found from an aftermath of a bloody gun battle between rival drug gangs in the desert.

No Country for Old man is a modern classic that reveals the horrible outcome resulting from greed. I wanted to create a title sequence with an abstract approach in representing the main character and plot of the movie. To me Moss’ behavior is similar to that of a moth who is helplessly drawn to light no realizing that the action may be its impending doom. For my concept, I’ve chosen a moth as a metaphor to Moss’s journey to death due to greed. The sequence was created through a composite of both original photography and texture elements. The moth was initially created by photographing a real moth specimen on a custom lit set with compositing of atmospheric elements and grading as part of the post production process. I also subtly composited paper currency onto the moth’s surface to represent the money as the catalyst of the story.
